Didn't Do Much And An Abandoned Hotel
Yesterday Tyson, My Friend Jeanie's oldest, and I walked back down to the beach in an attempt to see how sweaty we could get since the high ended up being a sultry 96. Being the curious sort, we headed down the path neither of us had already taken just to see what was there. And we found this. And I can't get the photo to download. Suffice this description: the abandoned Hotel Palace. According to the Total Croatia website, this beach front property was constructed in 1928 and from what we could see when we wandered (very briefly) inside, it was once a luxury property. Evidently it was purchased in 2008 by an investor intending to renovate the building, but instead has let it fall into ruins.
The remainder of the day was spent talking, napping, pooling, reading, eating. I am enjoying listening to what the kids are interested in and willing to share. My Friend Jeanie's German exchange son's two oldest children are with us (rest of family following Sunday), and I particularly loved hearing Reike, their oldest daughter, speak with great passion about her career goal: to change the world. She plans to go into politics and wants people to listen so she can be a catalyst for change. Given everything else currently going on, this gives me great hope for the world.
The internet is still spotty and slow. I'm guessing in the next few years, with a greater influx of American tourists who are not very tolerant of same, that will improve. The side effect is that we're only on our devices sporadically and in my humble opinion, that is a blessing.
The adults dined al fresco in the pool house last evening, where Tyson and his wife Alison cooked up yet another feast: wood and charcoal fire roasted potatoes, fresh Breen, a local fatty white fish, and pork chops (because they looked so great at the butcher). Their oldest daughter, Gwen, with an assist from Marcy's daughter and our Goddaughter MaggieRose, whipped up homemade macaroni and cheese. We did start to make a few sight seeing plans, to include Split today, visiting some of the 7 Kastels along the coast, a boat trip.
Off to start today!
