The House
Yesterday was a rather mellow day. We had breakfast at a nice cafe on the beach at Kastel Stari, then headed back to the house where, at one point, just Bill, My Friend Jeanie, Dan and I were in the jacuzzi (not really a hot tub) part of the pool, all by our lonesomes, no adult children, no grands. It was rather nice.
Luise Lumma, one of Jeanie's German grands, offered to make dinner tonight. Luise is 12, so with her parents and older siblings assistance, she made her favorite dinner: fish sticks, mashed potatoes, salad, creamed spinach. It was delicious!
We're having difficulty finding a channel to watch the Olympics on, but did manage to find the women's springboard synchro that showed the final dive for the contestants. Way to go, Bacon and Cooke!
Chef Dino popped by with a couple bottles of homemade Croatian liqueur that he had brought previously when he cooked for us. One is Orahovac, made from unripe green walnuts and the other is a herbal liqueur that packs a punch and none of us can remember the name of, but we love to kick back shots of both.
You might be wondering, how do 28 people stay together in one house? The answer is we don't. While the main house can sleep up to 18, My Friend Jeanie has done a yeoman's and amazing job of finding nearby apartments for the rest of the crew. She engaged the main house for a month and she and Bill will be here until mid-August. As people rotate in and out she organized a grid as to who would be staying where.
So today I thought I would take you on a photographic tour of the main house. Scroll through at your leisure and enjoy your Sunday!
Exterior of Apartments Zora, the name of the property which is the main house for our group
The garage area has been converted to a pool and ping pong area. Both kids and adults enjoy it.
The pool and jacuzzi, without anyone in it, a rarity as it has continued to be unseasonably hot throughout Croatia
Interior of the pool house, location of the outdoor grill which has seen copious use. Some evenings we bring dinner from the kitchen down here to eat together. Adjacent to the pool house are two large patio areas with rectangular tables and benches, another terrific gathering/eating space.
It's 20 steps up to the 2nd floor, the door opening into the kitchen. We've gotten quite good at cooking dinner for 20+ each evening.
Most mornings, adults gather for coffee and breakfast. Pekara is Croatian for bakery, and a bakery truck drives through the neighborhood each morning. It's usually Bill who purchases various filled doughnuts and croissants, which if the kids don't finish them in the morning, they are definitely gone by the evening.
Four spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms (not shown).Large living room with a TV. There are some apps that can be streamed here in Croatia, and others not. For example, we attempted to download our YouTubeTV and a notification popped up that it wasn't available in this country. Predominantly the Grands use this area, streaming a variety of movies.
Ten stairs up to the third floor. This area can be used as two separate apartments.
A studio apartment set up--small kitchen area, bedroom, bath (not shown)
