Ah, Bonjour! Day 2

C’est Si Bon

This first day has been full, perhaps fuller than advisable for older people after sitting on a plane for 8 hours, and I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Here's the Dan-o, pointing out our vessel to us.

We met up with my sister, Barb, brother-in-law, Pat; brother, Joe(y) and sister-in-law Lori on the ship, had a nice welcome lunch, and then followed through on our plan to walk from the ship to the Musee Rodin.  The customer service agent on the ship discouraged us from walking, perhaps because yesterday was one of the warmest days ever in Paris (31 C, near 90 F) and after all, we are over 70 and it was a couple miles each way.  However, in our previous visit to Paris, we stayed in an apartment and walked almost everywhere and if we didn't walk, we took the Metro and so enjoyed being immersed in the city at street level (and below) that we hoped to replicate that on this trip.

Google Maps were utilized and did not fail, though Dan enjoys second guessing instructions so that's always fun.  We found the city walking to be as delightful as we remembered and found our way to the Rodin without trouble.  And it was hot, but personally that's my preferred weather, as most of you know.

You can read more about the museum and Rodin here.  The two pieces you might be most familiar with are The Thinker and the Gates of Hell.  He also sculpts incredibly large hands and feet.

This piece is titled Despair.

The gardens in which many of Rodin's pieces are displayed are beautiful!  Rodin donated his house and workshop, including the gardens, to the French government with the stipulation it be open to the public.

We walked back to the ship in time for the requisite muster drill, happy hour, dinner and then, the time difference caught up with us and we went to bed.

Notice the famous landmark in the background.

Dan and I, as previously mentioned, have had so many tremendous travel opportunities. Right now we're concentrating on places we haven't been as opposed to revisiting locations we have seen.

But, oh.  Paris.  It is like no other...just because it's Paris.  It is the first European city I ever really wanted to visit and maybe that's why a thrill runs through me when Paris sites show up in the media.  I love it there, I think.  I could live there--at least for a little bit.  And coming back has felt not like coming home, but it reaffirms that I love Paris.
