Trying to Take It All Back
Our Republican candidate for governor, Dr. Scott Jensen, has a new campaign ad on the airwaves. You can see it here, if you'd like.
I'll set the scene for you. It's Dr. Jensen, sitting on a couch, a burp cloth over his shoulder, holding a pretty brand new baby like it's a rabid badger. (The baby, in actuality, or, as my granddaughter, 1st grader Sloane Marie Mastroianni might say, LITERALLY, is his new grandson, so I apologize to the Jensen family for the snarky remark, but am not taking it back.) Dr. Jensen, a documented opponent of abortion, including in cases of rape and incest, PRE AND POST DOBBS, now wants us to believe that he really didn't mean what he said. He's not out to change abortion rights in Minnesota, a state where, by the way, a woman's right to choose is constitutionally protected. No, Dr. Jensen now wants women to pretend that, as his running mate Matt Birk has basically (not literally this time, Sloaney) promoted that a woman's role is to be barefoot and pregnant, we are also deaf, dumb, blind and stupid.
Dr. Jensen. Women are none of the above. We heard you once. We heard you twice. And we hear you again, saying that you now won't go after our right to choose.
Really, how ignorant do you think our gender is?
This ad is an insult to women's intelligence. We see what you're trying to do here, bypass what is turning out to be a pivotal issue nationwide. (See the Washington Post article here.) You're running scared and well you should be.
Women, especially young women, are turning out in droves to register to vote. Whether or not they actually vote in this mid-term election remains to be seen, but if I were a candidate who on the record had opposed a woman's right to choose, I'd be quaking in my boots.
Trying to take back your stated position rings hollow, Dr. Jensen, as your position hasn't changed, has it? Seems to me just your words have.
See you at the polls. November 8.
